Happy Holidays!

This week we're starting to wrap things up here in NC and pack up to go to FL for the holidays. Before things get too crazy, I thought I'd do a quick post.

There's lots of pictures in this one folks, gotta catch up from after Halloween.

Fall 2013

What Fall would be complete without pumpkin spice challah bread?

Sitting down to our Thanksgiving dinner.  (no worries that's David's glass of wine off to the right)

Getting ready for Christmas
Our beautiful tree!  This year we chose a long needle pine. I've never had one before (being a FL gal, we only had fir trees) but I love it!

One Sunday we had a wintry mix kind of day,  Lena chose to change into pjs for the rest of the day.

Our Santa visit this year was a great success.  Here they are reading her Rudolph book.

The Light Balls of Sunset Hills

My neighborhood in Greensboro is known for hanging light balls from the trees throughout the neighborhood.  They are just light strands around balled up chicken wire.

But when the whole neighborhood does it, the effect is magical.

Each year the neighborhood hosts a 5k that runs through the lighted streets at night.  They close the roads off to vehicles.  Neighbors come out and sing carols and cheer you on.  Some play music others played instruments in small groups.  It was so much fun!  My favorite 5k ever!

Stitching Update
Here are my four sampler Christmas Stockings by Mary Beale.

I've posted 3 of 4 in the past.

But this year..Asta (my dog) has his own.

And I just finished Violet's Blue by Blackbird Designs.

Happy Halloween

Just a few pictures to cover our Halloween celebrations.

First glimpse inside a pumpkin.

She wouldn't touch the slimy seeds but helped take out the carved bits.

Tah dah!

I love our jack-o-lanterns this year!

Now on to the main event.  This year was Lena's first year out trick-or-treating.  We met some friends so she would be with other kids.  She loved it!

The cutest monster on the block

Starting to get brave at this point.

At the end of the night...sweet success. Her first bite of candy (ever. at least that I know of).

Catching Up

Once again it's been a little bit since I last wrote a blog post.  I think fall is a busy time of year for everyone.

So first up, I got my Village of Hawk Run Hollow back from the framer.  I just love it!

Last week my husband and I took a mini vacation up to the mountains, toddler free.  It was so pretty with all the leaves changing.  What a great way to celebrate his birthday and our wedding anniversary.

This is "our tree".  We had some wedding photos taken under this tree, so we always try to find it.

Look who turned 2!

Trying out her big girl trike.

Fall at the Farmer's Market

It's been a busy fall so far. We just now got out to the farmer's market for some gourds and pumpkins. (Mostly gourds b/c Lena's school has a pumpkin patch where proceeds go to the church.)

Our first stop was the pumpkin house.  Lena really liked it.

She loved sitting on the hay bales.

And then there were the pumpkins and gourds for sale.

So many choices...

Next weekend is the fall festival at her school.  Stay tuned...

So busy

First off... Tah Dah!  I cannot believe that my Village of Hawk Run Hollow is finished.  It took me nearly 14 months to complete but it's so lovely and worth it.

Here is the completed dreaded block 12.

And then I had to go back and complete block 9.

Also busy because we traveled back down to Florida (we were just there in June) for my brother's wedding.  Look at my beautiful family.

Such a sweet girl.  She loves getting all dressed up for special occasions.

And I've been busy!  Here I am after completing the Women's Only 5k.

Let's compare to us last year...where Lena has gotten bigger and I've gotten much smaller.  Go me!

Nearly there

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel (the tunnel being the unending black).  Thinking about light in the darkness gets Rocky Horror Picture Show stuck in my head.

So here it is block 12 (not my last block, but next to last) it's nearing completion.

Last week marked Lena's first day back at "school" in the big girl toddler room this year.

What is she up to?  Looks sneaky.

As we get closer to fall here in NC, the mornings get cool.  Here we are enjoying a morning at a local park.

And with fall comes apple season.  Oh how I love cooking with apples, these are my spiced apples that I put on pancakes and in oatmeal. Next will come pumpkins (pumpkin baking might come this weekend).

Getting spooky...

It's nearing the end of August and things are getting spooky in our house.

My Olde Burial Ground block of Village of Hawk Run Hollow (Carriage House Samplings) is really taking shape.

And a crazy "roaring" monster was spotted at our house.  Yikes!!

-Isn't that the cutest costume?!?  Last year we dressed her in what we wanted, an owl.  This year I tried to think up what she would like to be.  She loves my husband's monster figurines and says "roar" so I think this is perfect!

And now time for gratuitous baby pictures...
Boxes make great toys

Look at my handsome boy!

Finally...a blog post I've been a little remiss on my blogging, so say the least.  A lot has happened in the past 2 months.   Sadly I haven't done too much stitching.  I picked up a lot of extra yoga classes this summer on top of my other workout activities.  I was usually pretty worn out by all that and chasing a toddler around.  But I picked the needle back up last month to work on  a Christmas stocking for my dog Asta. And I've been going strong ever since!

I must warn you, this post is very photo heavy.

In June my little girl was flower girl for my sister-in-law's wedding (my husband in the background there looking handsome in a tux).

Then there was 4th of July, my little firecracker!

We met friends at the sprayground.  This place is awesome!

And had a pool day.

My October box (design by Cherished Stitches) came back from the finisher.

Love my Blackbird Designs fabric for the interior.

More recently, this big girl doesn't want to eat with her high chair tray.  (trays are for babies)

As you know, I love to cook.  I've been cooking up a storm.  Like this meal, chicken with 40 cloves of garlic.  So good, you could just lick the plate. (we don't anymore, now that we have to set an example)

Finally got Feast of Friendship by Blackbird Designs sent to the framer.

Stitched a Mary Beale, Sampler Stocking for my dog. (lucky dog!)

I finished block 11 on Village of Hawk Run Hollow by Carriage House Samplings. In both of these photos the linen looks too light, it is the darker color called for.

And I've made a good start on block 12.  (you'll notice block 9 is yet to be stitched, I've saved that for if stitching the grave yard at night with all black gets to be too monotonous).
