Christmas 2011

Wow...Christmas feels like a blur! We ended up making the trip down to Florida. The drive was too bad at all. We were pleasantly surprised with how good Lena did on the trip down and back home. But the time there...sheesh! Too much going on makes for a cranky baby! But she got to meet all her family members. And a few lucky ones got to hold her while she wasn't eating or crying. That being said...not too many pictures but I have a few cute ones.

Look at my adorable girl!

Relaxing in her new glider Nanna bought her and smiling at Mommy.

Asta or should I say...Rasta!

Our little family.

Okay..I'm not gonna lie, this was taken Tuesday night. She slept through Christmas at my mom's house so we never got a picture. :-P

Changing everyday!

The past weeks have been so busy that I have neglected posting things on my blog. What with Lena having thrush and her digestion issues, I just can't seem to find the time to do anything.

But here are a few pictures to show how much she has changed. She's now 7 weeks old and up to 8 lb. 13 oz.

Daddy styled her hair...he's so mean.

Chillin' on the boppy.

Sleepy heads. Must be nice!

Grinning

Just adorable!

New Arrival

First off, I want to thank everyone for their well wishes and warm congratulations. My surgery on Friday was a success and Miss Lena Grace arrived at 10:42 weighing 6 lb. and 11 oz. Stubborn until the end, it took 2 tries for the doctor to get her out. And then she peed on him. :-P

We came home Sunday afternoon. Now we're just enjoying life with our new bundle while attempting to sleep. It's a learning process and a huge adjustment. I really could not have done it without my SUPER husband and my mother...SUPER Nana. Thanks to them, these last fee days have been a little less stressful than they could have been.

Now for photos!

First off, here we are on a last date for the big day. We celebrated David's 31st b-day and our 4 year anniversary.

Here we are in our first family photo, minutes after she arrived.

Two of her biggest fans were waiting for her to make an appearance.

Day two..still a keeper.

She's a little grumpy in this picture but look how happy David is. Such pride and joy.

Look at those peepers.

A little cranky but still cute in her Halloween hat.

Guess what? Kitten butt! It's tummy time!

Thanks to mommy not being the best or fastest at diaper changes, we went ahead and gave her a bath today.

Coming Home Outfit

I think I posted a picture on Facebook. But I forgot to do a quick post on the little outfit I made for Miss Lena to come home in.

It's just a sleep gown that I embroidered a design on.

Pretty cute in my opinion. With just a little plain pink cap to go with it.

And a detail picture. Stitching on the stretchy fabric was harder than I thought it would be.

New Car!

Well...David's old car was finally on it's last leg. So we decided it was time to upgrade to a family car that would better meet our needs. Welcome the Subaru Forester! Safe and reliable meets really fun to drive. I mean come on...the car has a Porsche engine in it!

As soon as we took a test drive, we fell in love. Great handling and roomy for a smaller SUV. It will be comfy for the long trips home to FL plus it has all kinds of cool new features that neither one of our cars have.

Check it out!

Here I am..smiling in the front seat. Yes..I will be the primary driver. Lucky me!

You can kind of tell here, it's a sparkly graphite grey color.

Look at the spacious back seat. I know you can't see it but they even recline back a little.

Looking up towards the front, fancy radio and HUGE moonroof that really ought to be labeled a convertible.

Shower Time!

Baby shower that is...

We had such a wonderful time with all our friends here in Greensboro. I really can't thank Natalie and Heather enough for putting it all together. And it was so wonderful seeing everyone come out despite the rain.

Here are a few pictures that David and his co-worker took today.

Really cute sign Natalie made.

Look at those yummy pumpkin spice cupcakes!

Heather and Debbie, two very good friends here in town.

Since this was a co-ed shower, I let David open the gifts this go-around.

Asta may have claimed this sun hat. He's so cute!

Crafts for the baby

I'm sure some of you have been wondering...now she's been stitching like crazy but has she done anything for the baby? Well as a matter of fact..I have!

Here's an embroidery piece that is currently at the framer's.

Back in July I took a class at my local sewing store to learn Smocking. Smocking is a type of embroidery that has been used since the Middle Ages. Originally the smocked garment was practical as it allowed the fabric to give. Then later styles became a lot more decorative. Now smocking is a decorative form of embroidery that is worked in the pleats of a garment.

The dress on the bottom shows what it looks like before the embroidery. If I could sew, I could make the dresses and have them pleated. But I can't sew, I bought these ready-to-smock.

I picked the colors myself. I love the colors of autumn!

Oh and look...even the little sleeves are smocked. Those were not fun to do!

I already posted a quick iPhone pic of the blanket on Facebook. But I had David take a better one with his camera. I had to tweak the colors in the pattern since my blanket is for a girl. I love the almond with the strawberry and pistachio. (sounds like a tasty ice cream sundae)

More furniture

It was a nice surprise to come home on Friday and the delivery man had dropped off a package. My dad bought us a bassinet. David put it together and it looks really nice. We like the size of the piece when it's all together. But also the little moses basket comes out and has handles. So we can carry that up and down stairs separately. And it can be used as a changing table too. Very nice!

Also this week I finished a small embroidered piece to be framed and put in the baby's room. I think it's super cute.

Here's the bassinet. It's in the second bedroom for now but it will fit nicely right in our room too.

Here's the cute embroidery. It's small..only about 4 x4. It will look great framed.

Big Finish

Tah Dah! I have finished my Quaker Halloween cross-stitch. I think it turned out really nice. I can't remember when I began but I really kicked it into gear this summer so that I could have it framed in time for Halloween. Now I am working on small piece to hang in the baby's room. After that...another Halloween. What can I say? It's my favorite time of year.

I'm so proud of this piece!

Here's a bit of detail.

Oh yes...and on a side note, the baby crib delivered. I think it looks nice.

Chile Rellenos Casserole

Not only was I finally able to eat some ground beef (some good kind we bought from the farmer's market) but I tried out a new recipe. This month's issue of Cook's Country has a recipe for Chiles Rellenos. Now we love stuffed chiles but who has the time? Okay..sometimes we have the time. But we never fry them like the Mexican restaurants. So when I saw this recipe for a casserole, I had to try it.

It was awesome! If anyone is tempted, email me and I can scan my magazine.

Mmm...look at it all golden-y brown!

You make this tasty meat mixture and top it off with a "breading" and cheese.

AMAZING!

Garden is Growing!

So wow! What a learning experience...so many plants have just taken off! My dahlias, tomatoes and squash are out of control! We are getting lots of cherry tomatoes and some squash. My first round of yukon gold potatoes are now done and we're growing a second set.

So here it is a little bit of out of control...

Then we put the tomato plants in metal cages and it has really helped.

Voila! Look how tamed they are!

These are a couple of my heirloom tomatoes..when will they start to turn color? No clue.

I have 4 baby eggplants. Yum!

My blue lake green beans are starting off...look at the little beans...

This is my jungle..I mean squash patch. I have 3 types planted.

Got the camera down past the foliage to see the little squash growing. They are tasty!

My two blackberry vines thanks to the McNiffs. I had some green berries going...but David weed wacked them..so..no berries now but I have hope.

And my cedar planter boxes now have lovely petunias and ornamental sweet potato vines growing in them.

And my rabbit chaser..he tries his best.
